Community Involvement

Home / Community Involvement

Over the past 45 years, we have had the pleasure of partnering with some of Houston and the state’s finest organizations to help improve lives outside the courtroom.
These are just some of the many projects we have had the opportunity of contributing to over the years.

In 2023, Richard Mithoff helped set up the Ben Taub Emergency Center through Harris Health System.

In 2017 Richard Mithoff helped set up the Joe Jamail Endowment for Legal Services for Veterans through Texas Access to Justice.

In 2017, Houston Men of Distinction honored Richard Mithoff one of the city’s men who have distinguished themselves through excellence in community achievement, thereby providing support in superior biomedical research, education, and patient care in the Texas Medical Center and directly benefiting the Houston community.

In 2015, UT School of Law honored Richard and Ginni Mithoff on the fifth anniversary of the Pro Bono Center at University of Texas at Austin

In 2014, Richard and Ginni Mithoff chaired a gala which raised almost $2 million for the University of Texas Health. The event honored the legendary Dr. Red Duke.

In 2014, the Mithoffs gave a second $1 million gift — for a total of $2 million — to the University of Texas School of Law Pro Bono Program. The program, which has been renamed the Richard and Ginni Mithoff Pro Bono Program, gives law students increased access to justice and builds their professional skills by assisting individuals and communities in need.

In 1997, Mr. Mithoff was awarded the Jurisprudence Award by the Anti-Defamation League in recognition of his “immense talents, persuasive ability, and energy to fight for the principles enshrined in the Constitution and the League’s mission–justice and fair treatment for all.”

Mr. and Mrs. Mithoff were selected as Honorees at the Children at Risk Accolades Luncheon in 2002 for their “continuous commitment and service to the children of Houston” and were honored by County Judge Robert Eckels and the Harris County Commissioners Court with a Proclamation that Wednesday, October 2, 2002, be Ginni and Richard Mithoff and Children at Risk Day, in recognition of their efforts, “making a positive difference in the lives of the children of our community.”

The couple was honored in 2003 with the Samaritan Spirit Award in recognition of their “significant contributions to human health and growth” and in 2007 by Family Services of Greater Houston as the 2007 Family of the Year.

Harris County Hospital District

The Mithoffs directed a $10 million contribution to the Harris County Harris District Foundation to be used to set up programs relating to healthcare programs for indigent children. This helped to create the Children’s Health Fund, which provides funds for long range health programs for children who are not currently eligible for other similar programs and who are at the highest risk in our society.

In 2000, Mithoff received the first Ben Taub Humanitarian Award by Harris County Hospital District Foundation, in recognition of philanthropic endeavors as exemplified by the “generosity, interest and advocacy for health care” of the late Ben Taub. The hospital district named its world-class trauma center the Ginni and Richard Mithoff Trauma Center at the Ben Taub Hospital in 2007. Click here to read the entire story.

Houston Children’s Museum

In 2008-2009, Richard and Ginni Mithoff, along with son Michael and his wife Melissa, successfully spearheaded the $35 million capital campaign for the Children’s Museum of Houston. The new facility was dedicated in March 2009.

Texas Appleseed

Fighting for justice for those who are disadvantaged or wronged for more than 30 years, attorney Richard Mithoff can now officially be called a good apple. Mithoff was presented the 2008 J. Chrys Dougherty Good Apple Award at the Texas Appleseed’s dinner in Austin. Click here to read the full story. A video presentation was created for this event.

Houston Chronicle’s Goodfellows Program

The Houston Chronicle-Hearst Corporation sponsored program ensures that the holiday season is a happy time for all of Houston’s children. The couple has made a contribution to this program for a number of years, spreading the holiday cheer to deserving youngsters.  Click here to read full article.
